Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle pickup. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance information, fees, and your obligations related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To rent a vehicle from Shirley, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ based on the vehicle type. A valid driving licence corresponding to the vehicle category is required, held for the minimum duration stated in the Rental Agreement. Additionally, you must present valid identification and proof of your current address. Payment details and a security deposit are also necessary. Be sure to fulfill any other criteria outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be arranged via our website, by telephone, or at our Dartford office. To confirm your booking, a deposit may be necessary. The total payment and a security deposit are generally required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, with secure processing through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collecting your vehicle, it is essential to conduct a thorough inspection and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be generated and signed by both parties. You are expected to return the vehicle in the same condition as it was provided, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and may result in additional charges. Please ensure that the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at the time of collection; refueling fees will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may incur extra charges, so please inform us as soon as possible if a delay is anticipated. During your rental period, you are liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred, along with an associated administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. Details regarding coverage and excess amounts can be found in the Rental Agreement. Options for additional insurance may be offered to lower your financial responsibility. It is advisable to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless further coverage is obtained. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violations of these Terms will be your responsibility, irrespective of any insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies depend on the type of booking and the notice provided. For precise details, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that cancelling too late or failing to show up may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any illegal activities. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or engaging in other dangerous pursuits. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or allowing unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Additionally, the vehicle should not be used for purposes it was not intended for, nor should it exceed established passenger or weight limits. Driving outside the agreed geographical boundaries without prior approval is also prohibited.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Shirley Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount you paid in the last 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraudulent activities.
